Harm reduction
Harm reduction aims to reduce the risks associated with substance use. Harm reduction is works with individuals to find options and approaches that work for them without judgement. Some examples include: reviewing low risk alcohol guidelines, take-home naloxone kits, using less, using differently, or not using at all.
If you choose to use, you can reduce alcohol related risks through implementing protective strategies such as using a designated driver or alternating alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Nearly all of the most common protective strategies are being employed more commonly by UM students. For more information on protective strategies.
