Position Summary: 


Student Wellness at the University of Manitoba is seeking a Student Wellness Program Assistant to assist in delivering quality health and wellness education and programming to the campus community. This position reports to the Coordinator, Student Health and Wellness Education and will help with the assessment, planning, implementation and coordination of wellness programs and initiatives for all University of Manitoba students, as well as support the overall functioning of the Student Wellness office. 


Student Wellness exists to enhance the individual and collective health of the campus community through a wide range of programs, services, and resources. Through partnerships with on and off campus stakeholders, we work to create programming, provide direct student support and initiatives that support healthier choices for students to reach their fullest potential. Our goal is to create a safe and supportive campus community that promotes holistic wellness through collaboration, assessment, communication and skill building. 


Responsibilities of the Student Wellness Program Assistant: 

  • Research health and wellness best practices and consult with the Coordinator, Student Health and Wellness Education in creation of health and wellness materials, programming, workshops and presentations on campus 

  • Assist with all health and wellness programming and content development 

  • Volunteer management and support for Healthy U 

  • Assist with Healthy U program planning and revision 

  • Serve as the main liaison within the Healthy U program to incoming volunteers 

  • Manage Healthy U supply list and inventory 

  • Represent Student Wellness at various tabling and orientation events as required 

  • Conduct presentations on the Student Wellness Program or health topics as needed 

  • Student Wellness advertising, social media and communications (webpage development, advertising materials, social media) 

  • Assist with health-related communications and messaging 

  • Preparation of Student Wellness educational materials (packages, pamphlets, etc.) 

  • Administrative tasks as required (record keeping, meeting minutes, room bookings, purchasing supplies, copying, printing, etc.) 

  • Respond to requests and inquiries from student groups and other campus community members as appropriate regarding resources and health and wellness programming 

  • Coordinate and implement assessment and evaluation of programming and initiatives 

  • Meet and collaborate with multiple stakeholders on campus to promote a culture of wellness on campus 

  • Other duties as assigned 


Qualifications: 

  • Undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Manitoba 

  • Full-time student for 2025-2026 academic year 

  • Successful completion of at least 2 years of university study with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required 

  • Knowledge and application of the principles of public health, health messaging and communication, holism, harm reduction, health promotion and prevention 

  • Knowledge of cultural competency and commitment to advocating for holistic wellness 

  • Knowledge of health issues and needs that affect the post-secondary population 

  • Experience working with diverse and at-risk populations 


Required Skills: 

  • Self-initiating, self-motivated, and self-directive with the ability to work independently and take initiative 

  • Strong written and oral communication abilities 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment 

  • Able to effectively organize and manage multiple demands 


Experience or knowledge within these skills will be considered an asset: 

  • Public speaking experience 

  • Ability to manage and resolve conflict and challenging situations 

  • Experience within a leadership role 

  • Relevant degree program and related experience and skills 

  • Knowledge of health issues and needs that affect the post-secondary population 

  • Knowledge of and comfort with sexual/mental health promotion and substance use and related topics 


2025–2026 commitment: 

  • Attend and complete mandatory fall training and team building on Tuesday, September 2, from 8:30am – 4:30pm and Friday, September 5 from 2:30 – 5:30pm 

  • Be available each Friday in September from 2:30 – 4:30 pm for additional topic related training 

  • Be available each Friday during 2025-2026 the academic year from 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm for Healthy U team meetings 


Work Schedule

  • 2025-2026 Fall and Winter terms: Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, up to 20 hours per week; occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary 

  • 2026 Spring and Summer: Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, up to 30 hours per week; occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary 

  • Hourly Wage: $21/hour + 6% vacation pay 

  • Expected Start Date: Monday, August 18, 2025
